OM SYSTEM announced the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 III on September 9, 2026. The new Micro Four Thirds standard zoom covers an angle of view equivalent to 28–84mm on a 35mm camera and is offered as a kit lens for the new PEN.[1]
Its optical design uses eight elements in seven groups, including three aspherical elements. Multilayer coating is applied to every lens surface, and a circular aperture supports natural out-of-focus rendering. A collapsible barrel improves portability: rotating the zoom ring extends or retracts the lens, simplifying the transition between carrying and shooting.[1]
Close focusing is a central change. At 14mm, the minimum focus distance is 0.13m, allowing a subject approximately 4cm from the lens front. Maximum equivalent magnification reaches 0.53×. Focus stacking is supported on compatible OM SYSTEM cameras, helping extend depth of field for close subjects.[1]
The lens combines IPX1 splash protection with a dust-conscious design when used with an appropriately protected camera. The LC-46 cap is included; the LH-49B hood is sold separately. Japan’s initial release plan was late October, with open pricing.[1]
Update, October 7, 2026: OM SYSTEM fixed October 30 as Japan’s release date for the separate lens and PEN kits.[2]
