OM SYSTEM announced the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm F1.8 II and 25mm F1.8 II on February 6, 2025. The pair adds splash protection and a dust-conscious construction to two compact prime-lens formats, covering angles of view equivalent to 34mm and 50mm respectively on a 35mm camera. Both retain an F1.8 maximum aperture.[1]
The 17mm F1.8 II uses nine elements in six groups and measures 37.6mm long, weighing 112g. The 25mm F1.8 II has nine elements in seven groups, a length of 42mm and a weight of 156g. Metal barrels keep the lenses compact, while MSC focusing is designed for quiet operation during still photography and movie recording. Stabilization is supplied by a compatible camera’s in-body system.[1][2]
Their stated splash-protection rating is IPX1 when used with an appropriately protected camera. This gives photographers a more suitable option for changing outdoor conditions, while the protection rating and handling instructions remain specific to these lenses.[1]
Japan’s release announcement scheduled both models for March 1. The listed tax-inclusive prices are ¥71,500 for the 17mm and ¥60,500 for the 25mm. The official model names are M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm F1.8 II and M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 25mm F1.8 II; neither includes the ED designation.[1]
